February 20 - All-State Large Group at Ames

February 27 - District Individual Events Speech
March 12 - State Individual Events Speech
April 4 - All-State Individual Events Speech at UNI

Speech Club Officer Expectations
 
All officers are expected to show positive leadership and excellent citizenship.  Officers should be active speech participants who wish to inspire others and unify the speech students at West Lyon.  Officers must be willing to communicate openly with their colleagues and coaches as well as the community.  Initiative, diligence, and creativity are valued and expected in all candidates.
 
President
 
*Must be a junior or senior
*Must have previous speech experience
*Must maintain satisfactory academic performance
 
The president functions as the face of the speech club by providing leadership to all members, facilitating club meetings, and communicating with coaches and the community.
 
Vice-President
 
*Must be a junior
*Must have previous speech experience
*Must maintain satisfactory academic performance
 
The vice-president serves as the “right-hand” man or woman to the president.  Positive leadership and clear communication are essential skills.  Strong organizational skills are also desired.
 
Secretary
 
**Must have previous speech experience
**Must maintain satisfactory academic performance
 
The secretary is responsible for creating meeting agendas and transcribing meeting minutes.  Strong organizational skills are necessary for this office, and well-developed computer skills are preferred.  Clear and consistent communication is essential for success.
 
Historian
 
**Must have previous speech experience
**Must maintain satisfactory academic performance
 
The historian is responsible for keeping a record of club activities.  Photos should be taken and placed in either a digital or traditional scrapbook.  The historian will also maintain the web page and handle all communication with the community.
 
9th and 10th grade Representatives
 
**Must maintain satisfactory academic performance
 
Leadership and communication skills are necessary for this role as a class representative.
